iPhone Fold Reportedly on Track for 2026 Launch as Prototypes Enter Testing

Apple’s long-rumored folding iPhone, commonly referred to as the iPhone Fold, is reportedly on schedule for a potential launch in the second half of 2026.
According to a new report from Digitimes, the device recently entered the Prototype 1 (P1) phase—a key milestone where Apple creates fully functional test units. This stage follows earlier mockups and internal testing and marks the beginning of real-world evaluation.
If all goes smoothly, the foldable iPhone could move into the Engineering Verification Test (EVT) stage by late 2025. That would put Apple on track for an official release sometime in 2026.
As expected, Apple is taking its time. The company is known for its “best, not first” approach to product categories, choosing to solve major issues—like the noticeable crease seen in many current foldable displays—before entering the market. Samsung, Apple’s display partner, is reportedly developing a more advanced screen specifically for this device.
There’s no finalized spec yet, but early prototypes are said to feature:
A 7.58-inch foldable display
A titanium body
Dual 48MP rear cameras
Sources also suggest the design of the upcoming iPhone 17 Air may have been a stepping stone toward the foldable model.
While still early in development, the iPhone Fold is shaping up to be one of Apple’s most ambitious hardware projects yet.
